A mixed media piece
Attendees are advised to bring a few of their own personal clippings, to create a truly unique and personal goal board.
For two weekends in January we had Vision Board Sessions on Saturday morning. The buzz was electric, the attendees came early loaded with bags of personal momentos, photos, papers, words, even stones and other precious items to attach to their pieces.
Let’s walk you through the morning, what some expectations were and some that didn’t have any and where did it all go from there.
Swoosh the door opens on bright sunny mornings, not too early, enough time to have managed the family before heading off to meet a friend or family at Vin Gogh. The coffee is ready, kettle boiled, bags and coats are stowed away and seats are selected.
The centre front table is full of added inspiration, books, magazines, cut up words, sparkle paint and extra neon colours as well. Mod Podge, glue, brushes and tape. Stencils and symbols, stencils of letters to build messages lay in wait. At the front of the room on a small stage area, are variety of previously painted canvases from other classes, the instructors copies, and then blank canvases. The size is the same, 14” x 18”, same playing field. Set up on stage are two easels for the instructor, one is a previously created Vision Board and the other is the instructor’s starting canvas, a previously painted canvas for these classes were chosen.
The time to begin has arrived, take your places people and let’s talk about the game plan for today. Start with 3 to 4 paint colours, what will your palette be? Maybe some tones that are reflected in your photos or words. So think about colour, arrangement, focus, and FUN. The instructor, ME, has brought so examples of Vision Boards I have found on Pinterest, one of the best resources for imagery.
Some people go back to their tables and start clipping their images right away, others flip through the previously painted canvases and grab one, others want to load up their paint palettes and start filling the canvas, others pile over to the activity table filled with the treasure of books, magazines and the plethora of other materials.
The creative BUZZ has begun.
As the Instructor it is a balance we must find to start our piece boldly to inspire the rest to “Touch Down” so to speak and begin our markings.
Here’s a brief Facetime Video shot by Claudette Stiven, that gives you an energy burst. A peak into a day in the life of Vision Boards at Vin Gogh.
The Words I love when I watch this are “Oh Wow, they are all so Different”
Track your vision, enjoy the story and the beauty you brought to your life, the time spent with friends and perhaps meeting a few more.
